Back to Westward Ho Intro

I am most grateful to businessman Chris Bluer of Torkington Engineers for the 1973  newspaper cutting of The Westward Ho in her birth at Pomona Dock, Manchester - which appears below.

I remember Chris very well in that period as a friendly, generous patron of the Clubship and his kindness in providing the historical  item below is typical of his helpful attitude - an attitude which no doubt  goes a long way to explaining the success of his enterprise.

Hale, Cheshire 11.11.2009.

Hello Jud, You will probably will not remember me, but I owned Torkington Engineers which was located on Cornbrook Rd, at the entrance to Pomona Docks. I remember you once coming to see me, wanting some work done, when you were preparing the Westward Ho. I came across a leaflet, which I thought you would appreciate. I live in Hale, near Altrincham, Cheshire. I have now retired from the business, and my two sons own and manage it. We now have a large factory in Trafford Park, employing thirty five staff... I am very proud of the company. I looked at your website. What an achievement

Best wishes

Chris Bluer
