OVERLOAD
Sandra’s fuse has burnt out.
She’d used a 3 amp one
instead of the recommended 13,
and it had only taken a surge
of feeling to melt the copper
wire.
Her circuit protected, she can
no longer
feel.
Her eyes, dazed and inward-focused,
have no power, are as live
as the dead newt drying out by
the pond.
There’d been a flash, her eyes
had shone;
then the emotional overload
had fused the wire.
And here she sits, empty as a
shrivelled
newt.
Sandra’s fuse has burnt out.
