Getting the right doctor is essential if
you find a breast-lump. The truth is that
many women experience cysts in the chest
area which are quite normal and benign. All the same, it is very prudent to have your
doctor check it out if you ever detect a
what you believe to be a common cyst of the
skin, or under the skin. They are normally
simply clumps filled with fatty matter
(sebum) that is secreted by a sebaceous gland
that has been blocked. Regular self-examination
is a sensible and responsible precaution.
And DON'T be scared to go and have it checked
out if you think you do detect something
that didn't used to be there.
During my late wife's long
illness, I read every book on the library
shelves about breast-cancer - and consider
myself something of an expert on it now.
looking back and speaking frankly it's debatable
whether she should have been told that the
disease had spread. In some cases is better
if the victim doesn't know. Other people
have the courage to deal with the truth.
My wife Sue was someone that couldn't handle
the truth. I knew what was happening to her.
I studied the disease in detail and was able
to discuss the progress with the doctors.
I even took one doctor to court, because
when Sue found the original lump in her breast
she had gone immediately to her G. P (General
Practitioner.) He just took one cursory
look at it and did not bother to proceed
further with a proper examination.
He told her to go away
and if it got bigger to make another appointment
to see him. It did grow and valuable treatment
time was lost. To compound bad practice with
error he then sent her to hospital with a
letter to have a mammogram. In this letter,
he identified the wrong breast - the right
side instead of the left side.
Of course, they found nothing!
Later after it continued to grow, she had
to have a mastectomy. When we went to the
tribunal, we found that the forum of justice
was a court consisting of all doctors, with
only one non-doctor. They decided that it
was 'human error’ and he wasn't found guilty.
In Britain that has changed now.
Bottom line? Getting the right doctor
is essential if you find a breast-lump.
