Preliminary Remarks by Libor Zajicek In Czech rendition. We use relatively lot of differ diacritic marks, so this is such a computer Czech. In Czech there is home-made verb být (to be). There is also existovat (to exist) here, but it is from Latin and I think it is still little bit a book form. But like a noun it is more colloquial, for example in lost existence (sorry for my English) "ztracena existence" - about a lame duck. As made of slavic stuff we have "byti", I think it is more or less an abortive attempt to think up someting instead the latin-czech "existence". It is used by some philosophers. Further we have "bytost", like "lidska bytost" (human being), "mimozemske bytosti" (extraterrestrial beings). Can derive deminutivum "bytustka" too, like "prijemna bytustka" (somebody agreeable.) Libor Zajicek.
Existence................. existence, byti Life.......................... ..zivot Being [noun]............ bytost (for example human being) I was......................... byl jsem (masculinum: I will use everywhere) he was...................... byl they were.................. byli I am.......................... jsem you are..................... jsi He is......................... je they are..................... jsou I will be...................... budu he will be................... bude they will be................ budou there was.................. bylo (tam) (but we don´t have phrases like es gab, il y avait) there will be............... bude (tam) it existed................... existovalo
Finally ten short sentences. [Please put the 'existence' word in brackets] Example: The girl [is] a student. The girl is a student............... Ta dívka (je) studentka The boy is being kind............ Ten chlapec (je) mily The building has existed for ten years...........Budova (ma) (word for word has; you can also say: stoji - stands) deset let The girl is running quickly .... Divka bezi (is running) rychle The boy is handsome............ Ten chlapec (je) pekny The man is a doctor.............. Ten clovek (je) doktor I believe in the existence of atoms..................Verim v (existenci) Life exists on earth.............. Na zemi (je or existuje, but the first one is better) zivot. I like being a student.......... (Jsem) rád studentem (word for word: I am glad student (instrumental)) I enjoy life......................... Uzivam si zivota (word for word: (i) enjoy life (accusativ)) I love him/her with my whole 'Being.' ....................Miluji ji celou svou (bytosti) (but it is little bit "a linguistic sentence, to be fitted")
"existence". It is used by some philosophers like "lidi" (extraterrestrial beings).
We can use: "bytustka" too, like "prijemna b
